- WhatsApp is one of the most widely used chat applications in Indonesia, so it is not surprising that WA accounts are often targeted by digital criminals.
Recently, cases of WhatsApp hijacking have become increasingly common, ranging from accounts suddenly leaving themselves to fraudulent messages sent from the victim's number.
Due to its personal nature, this application is very vulnerable to misuse.
To prevent accounts from being taken over by irresponsible parties, WhatsApp provides a two-step verification feature which every user must activate.
According to Kompas.com, here's how to activate it:
- Enter the Settings menu by tapping the three vertical dots in the top right corner.
- Select Account, then press Two-step verification.
- Tap Enable, then enter the six-digit PIN of your choice and repeat to confirm.
- Additionally, you can add an email address (optional). Email in functions to reset the PIN if you forget it at any time.
Once this feature is active, WhatsApp will ask for a PIN every time someone tries to log in using your number on another device.
This means that only people who know the 2FA PIN can access the account.
WhatsApp will also ask you to enter your PIN periodically as a reminder.
