The island of Java is sitting on a living ‘giant mine’. Scientists from BMKG and the Indonesian Earthquake Study Center recently warned: there are THREE active megathrust zones in southern Java, starting from Banten, the southern coast of Central Java, to Banyuwangi.
Each has the potential to trigger a giant earthquake of up to M 9.1 and a destructive tsunami. Not a movie, not a theory. Everything is real, moving, and we live right on top of it.
The problem?
We are more often busy in man-made dramas, Even though the greatest drama is being written by the earth. The island of Java is inhabited by 150+ million people, but evacuation routes are still minimal, education is still rare, residents' houses still stand a few meters from the beach.
We are a country prone to earthquakes, but often live like a country without risks, Geotechnologists say:

- Clear evacuation routes
- Routine education in schools, factories, offices
- Spatial planning that favors safety
- Earthquake resistant buildings, not project resistant

Pulau Jawa sedang duduk di atas ‘ranjau raksasa’ yang hidup, Para ilmuwan dari BMKG dan Pusat Studi Gempa Indonesia baru-baru ini mengingatkan: ada TIGA zona megathrust aktif di selatan Jawa mulai dari Banten, pesisir selatan Jawa Tengah, hingga Banyuwangi.
Masing-masing berpotensi memicu gempa raksasa hingga M 9,1 dan tsunami destruktif. Bukan film, bukan teori. Semuanya nyata, bergerak, dan kita hidup tepat di atasnya.
Masalahnya? Kita lebih sering sibuk pada drama buatan manusia, Padahal drama terbesar sedang ditulis oleh bumi.
Pulau Jawa dihuni 150+ juta jiwa, tapi jalur evakuasi masih minim, edukasi masih jarang, rumah warga masih berdiri beberapa meter dari bibir pantai. Kita negara rawan gempa, tapi sering hidup seperti negara tanpa risiko.
Para ahli geoteknologi mengatakan:
Megathrust itu bukan bom waktu yang bisa diprediksi kapan meledak. Ia seperti musim hujan geologi pasti datang, tapi waktunya tak ada yang tahu.
Artinya: yang penting bukan prediksinya, tapi kesiapsiagaannya. Jepang sudah membuktikan, edukasi dan sistem yang rapi bisa menyelamatkan ribuan nyawa. Indonesia bisa asal mau. Gempa tidak bisa dicegah, Tapi KORBAN bisa, Yang kita butuhkan:
- Sistem peringatan dini sampai desa pesisir
- Jalur evakuasi yang jelas
- Edukasi rutin di sekolah, pabrik, kantor
- Tata ruang yang berpihak pada keselamatan
- Bangunan tahan gempa, bukan tahan proyek
